Giveaway – Homemade Doggie Treats!

February 10, 2012 in Active Giveaways, Giveaway

I have a dog, an awesomely awesome Golden Retriever, and I love her to death but right now she just won’t leave me alone!

See, Stephanie from the Happy Tails Pet Bakery over on Etsy sent me a sample of her homemade dog treats.  Specifically, she provided me with a few each of the Peanut Butter Bacon Hearts and Cheesy Cheddar dog biscuits.

These are generously-sized and thick and chewy.  Quarter not included.

My first mistake was calling my dog over as I opened the box.  She (as dogs do) instantly knew there was something yummy and delightful and FOR HER inside.  So she was all wiggly and annoying as I tried to take a couple pictures of the items I received.  Then realizing she could be dissuaded no longer, I gave her one of the peanut butter bacon hearts.  At first I think she was a little confused and she didn’t eat it right away.  Either she was a little thrown off by the consistency (she’s used to hard, crunchy treats and these are more soft and chewy) or she was perplexed that I gave her something so yummy (she did that sort of ooh-I-better-drop-this-because-I’m-not-supposed-to-have-it kind of maneuver).  After a couple reassurances that it was, indeed, OK for her to eat it, she got down to business and laid into that morsel.  Then I let her sample the cheesy cheddar biscuits – again, more soft and chewy than cripsy, which was a very pleasant surprise) and after torturing her for a moment, she decimated it.  Because she seemed to enjoy them so much I gave her another peanut butter heart, again with a touch of sadism, and she wolfed it down.

Since yesterday evening, she keeps bugging me for another treat.  She ACTS like she wants to go outside… but then when we get to the door, she won’t go out.  She looks at the counter where she knows the little bags of treats are.  And then looks at me, like, “OK, we’re here.  Fork one over, lady.”

Of course she hates when I do this. I would never try to argue otherwise.

One additional thing I’d like to point out – even though Stephanie sent me treats that were appropriately-sized for my large dog, many of her treats are available in smaller sizes (and proportionately larger quantities) if you have a more portable-sized canine friend.  Any of the bone-shaped treats are available in two different smaller sizes more suited for small or medium pups.  Or, since they’re soft, you can easily break off pieces or cut them up.

Luckily, in addition to providing a full-size package of both the peanut butter bacon hearts AND the cheesy cheddar biscuits to one lucky winner, Stephanie has also provided a coupon code so that we may all spoil our loyal four-legged buddies with this yummy homemade goodness.  I will most certainly be utilizing the code “HAPPYTAILS20″ at her Etsy shop to get 20% off some more treats for my sweet dog, who is much too neglected these days, as we’ve had three kids since we got her nearly 10 years ago.  The ol’ girl deserves a little extra indulgence from time to time.  That code is good for the duration of the contest, which will be open through February 21, 2012 and is open to US residents only.

Have fun entering, and perusing Stephanie’s shop, and good luck!
